Where to stay- Chiang Mai

Before heading out, I did a lot of research about where to stay in Chiang Mai. I wanted a hotel with a resort feel, but something that wasn’t too far away from the city. I didn’t want to spend too much time commuting from one place to another, and I really wanted to be able to rest and relax when I didn’t have any tours planned. Most of the resorts were at least an hour away and up in the mountains, so it took me a while to find just the right one. Fortunately, I stumbled upon one of my all time favorite luxury chains- The Shangri-la. Of course! How could I have not known they had a hotel in Chiang Mai??? It was perfect. An oasis right in the center of the city.

Unlike most business-y hotels, The Shangri-la reminded me so much of home. There was just enough greenery and wood-work to keep things feeling cozy. It didn’t feel like I was staying in the city at all! And spending most of my childhood weekends in Shangri-la Mactan, staying here definitely brought back a ton of good memories.

Some of my favorite spots in the hotel include:

1. The Lobby Lounge- where I had some good coffee while waiting for our tours to arrive.

2. The Breakfast Buffet- I prefer the one in the lobby (not the club lounge) because they have Szechuan dishes that were soooo delish for my asian belly. Weird to have them in the morning, but I just couldn’t resist!

3. The Rooms- Cause I had the best sleep and they gave us a daily dose of fruits and wine!

4. The Jacuzzi- Somehow, even if it was 35-40 degrees out, this super hot hot tub kept me so relaxed and energized! Especially when I had the 2 for 1 cocktails during happy hour!

Let’s not forget my most favorite part of all- CHI SPA! Among all the spa’s and massages I’ve tried all over the world, Chi Spa is still the best. I don’t know if it’s because of the memories thing or because they just know exactly what to do, but I always feel the most relaxed with them. The ambiance, the scents, the talented masseuse, the cashmere robe- even the disposable underwear they give you feels luxe- everything just comes together!

Shangri-la Chiang Mai also has a tennis court which was empty when we came. Good for Slater! But unfortunately, he didn’t have anyone to play with. I for sure can’t hit a ball to save my life. 🙈

And my last favorite is definitely the location. The hotel’s proximity to night markets and street food parks were the perfect addition to our stay. When we didn’t feel like partying it up, but still wanted a taste of some local living, we just walked out of the hotel and BOOM- we’re there. It was so convenient and absolutely made our trip so much more easy and effortless.

Thanks for the memories, Shangri-la! And no, they did not ask me to write this article. 😜

Hey Kryz, I was wondering which travel insurance is your go-to since you always travel frequently? There aren’t many travel insurances available for Filipino citizens unfortunately, so I would love to hear your suggestion/s!
