It’s the age of glass skin, and achieving that everyday dewy look. Serum after serum, getting the latest skincare innovation, following the 10-step rule- don’t you just stop and wonder, what really is the point of this all?
Is there really a need to follow the skin care trend? Or are you just supposed to wash your face and call it a day?
If you’re just starting your own regimen and you’re overwhelmed with all these steps and products – I gotchu. Here’s a basic skincare guide for beginners that will get you to glow up real good.
1. Make-up Remover:
It’s the first thing on my list because guuurl, before anything else, you have to make sure that base is clean. Start by removing all the grime and bacteria build-up from your day. Even without makeup, that sweat and pollution can easily clog up your pores, so you need to make sure you cleanse well.
There are so many products to choose from depending on your skin type and preference but I’d personally go for an oil-based cleanser. It will give you a deep clean without stripping moisture out of your skin.
Clinique: take the day off oil cleanser | Shu Umera Skin Purifier | Clarins Total Oil Cleanser | Bioré Oil Cleanser
2. Gel Cleanser:
I’m a firm believer in double cleansing because it honestly does wonders for my skin. When you go in with a makeup remover, you loosen up the gunk on top. Now it’s time to lather up and wash it away.
Going for a water-based gel cleanser is a no-nonsense, simple and easy way to wash off those impurities. It’s made for less irritation too.
La Roche-Posay | Neutrogena Hydro Boost | Avène Oil-free Cleanser | COSRX Low PH Good Morning Cleanser
3. Toner:
This is a must-have for many different reasons. It usually depends what active ingredients are inside your chosen product but in general, toners help in correcting and balancing the pH levels of your skin.
You can research about it more on the web but for starters, I advise that you go for an alcohol-free one because it’s less harsh on your skin and maybe use toners with active ingredients like AHAs and BHAs for a mild chemical exfoliation.
The Body Shop Tea Tree Toner | Thayers Witch Hazel Toner | Antipodes Clarifying Facial Toner | Kiehl’s Calendula Alcohol-Free Toner
4. Moisturizer:
Now after all that cleansing and washing, let’s add back some moisture into your face. I recommend going for a different one for the day (with SPF if possible) and a heavier cream for night, when your skin is recovering.
Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer | Simple Hydrating Moisturizer | Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-cream
5. SPF:
Never EVER forget to apply sunscreen, it’s your most important weapon when you’re out and about during the day. Wearing sunscreen everyday can protect you from exposure to UV rays and premature aging – and yes, you still need to put it on even on cloudy days!
